Range: From the Santa Maria River to the US-Mexico Border Average size: 20-30 inches The steelhead form of rainbow trout live much of their adult lives in the ocean, but must return to gravel-bottomed fresh water streams and rivers to spawn. The Southern California Steelhead is an endangered species due to threats from urbanization and dams.
