In October of 2022, I spent 3 weeks at a residency in Joshua Tree, CA. I was investigating the slow violence experienced by Joshua trees through climate change, where habitat shrinkage within Joshua Tree National Park could exceed 99% by the end of the century. The pieces I made in response to my time there, which included participation in a fire-recovery vegetation survey as well as self-directed field research, are visual elegies to these singular beings and their struggle to survive increasingly hostile conditions.
